During the early victorian era which was around the 1800's. People in Britain would usually use pastes to cover up scars from smallpoxs or to cover up their acne, it was used to smooth out their face. Rich and even the poor would use this paste, it was very common. Most got it from doctors, made it themselves, or if they were very wealthy they would have their own personal dealer to make theirs.
